NFL

It’s been an exciting season thus far. Our Super Bowl pick: Vikings over Bengals. That’s right– the Vikes will take down the red-hot Saints to win the NFC and the Bengals will stun the Patriots and the Colts to win the AFC. You heard it here first.

Of course Limbaugh Can’t Own an NFL Team

Is anybody really surprised that Rush won’t be approved as a minority owner of the St. Louis Rams?

It has nothing to do with Rush’s conservative ideology.

It’s absurd to suggest, as Limbaugh has, that the league is run by “leftists” and “liberals.”

The NFL is run by one thing: Money.  The League offers a superior product and occupies a unique niche in the marketplace.  They’re making money hand over fist right now, and they’d be crazy to jeaprodize it.  Limbaugh would do that.  He spends 15 hours per week flirting with the line seperating ridiculous from downright offensive.

Why would the NFL want anything to do with him?

It’s not Rush’s conservatism that foiled his bid, it’s the way he talks about his conservatism.  That’s all there is to it.

The Collapse of Major League Baseball

Was anybody surprised to learn that Manny Ramirez took performance enhancing drugs?

If you were, you haven’t been paying attention. In the last year we’ve learned that the two best hitters in the game (A-Rod and now Manny) were cheating, as well as the best pitcher over the last twenty years (Clemens). At this point, nothing should shock us.

Fact of the Day– April 27

The NFL draft happened this weekend.  Quarterback Matthew Stafford was the first player selected.  He signed a 6-year, $72 million contract with the Detroit Lions, with $41 million guaranteed.  This makes him the highest-paid player in the history of the Detroit Lions– and he hasn’t played a snap yet.  In contrast, 3-time Super Bowl champion QB Tom Brady is making $60 million over 6 years.

How does that makes sense??

NBA: Chicago’s Derrick Rose Wins Rookie of the Year Award

No surprise here– Chicago Bull’s rookie phenom Derrick Rose received 111 of a possible 116 first place votes to win the NBA rookie of the year title.

The point guard led all rookies with 6.3 assists per game, and finished second with 16.8 points per game.

We just won our bracket competition for the second year in a row– and we don’t know anything about college basketball. The secret? Just pick the higher-seeded team in every match up.
